A tooth with a cavity (hole) due to tooth decay or dental trauma needs to be filled. Holes can be identified by a thorough dental exam (recommended every 6 months) or by taking x-rays.

Dentists use a variety of materials to fill holes, depending on the location of the tooth. The filling material used will usually match the colour of the tooth, giving you a natural looking and fully functional tooth.

A tooth with a hole should always be filled to ensure that the decay is removed or avoided. Holes left untreated can lead to tooth ache and sensitivity and require more complex dental treatment in the future.
